Shared Air, 2022

Triptych.20”x5”x5ft
Blowing air through straws while sick with Covid-19 2 years into pandemic. Imagining our interconnection, as virus spreads.
Watercolor “rapid tests” adhered to foam board. Wire heads interconnect boards. El-wire LED neon attached to wire heads. Shattered plaster cast masks painted with acrylic. Battery operated and interactive with audience.

Using red and blue watercolor like the rapid tests we've become so familiar with, I envision how COVID-19 spreads. Noticing how the mixtures of cold and warm reds vs. cold and warm blues interact to make new colors, I began to see how COVID-19 can be spread between each micro-community we enter. I became infected with the virus roughly a week after attending my first concert in two years. This experience made me experience firsthand how each of our experiences comes with the potential to catch the virus and spread it to others uninvolved with your experience.

Each pair of paintings are adhered to foam board. Using wire, to make each pair airborne. Illustrating the facelessness of how the virus is spread. The neon wire adhered to these faces narrating the spread of our Shared Air.
